The Suzaku Building, a long-abandoned apartment complex in Rustboro, has been acquired and renovated by Thomas Benoit, following the skirmishes surrounding Petalburg. By design, the floors leading to the top are rife with danger.[break][break]

Visits to the converted complex are scheduled in advance, in order for the challenge to be prepared accordingly. Battles with the Gym Leader are conducted either on the roof, or in a lot outside of the complex, one large enough to accommodate two Dynamax Pokemon, if needed. Those who wish to test their mettle in an urban warfare situation are tasked with tackling the many perils of the complex, as they ascend to the top.

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVE

The aim of the Rustboro Gym is to teach challengers how to survive the dangers of urban warfare. To not only be able to be able to maintain situational awareness in the cramped quarters of the complex, but to contend with random events that may befall them in such an ugly situation.[break][break]

TRADITIONAL CHALLENGE

Those who decide to take Thomas' Traditional Challenge will either be escorted to the rooftop of the Suzaku Tower, or the lot behind the building. The latter is vast enough to accommodate the presence of two Dynamax Pokemon, one per battler. In battles involving Dynamax, the lot will be the battlefield. Otherwise, the challenger has the choice between the two battlegrounds.[break][break]

The objective of the Traditional Battle is simple: knock out all of the opposing Pokemon. When one side no longer has any Pokemon, or has forfeit, the winner is determined. Knocking out all of the Gym Leader's active Pokemon will net challengers the Demon Badge.[break][break]

TRADITIONAL RULES:

• Formats are singles, doubles or triples.
• Singles can range from 1v1, to 3v3.
• Doubles is 2v2, or 4v4
• Triples is strictly 3v3
• In singles and doubles, it's two moves per turn. In the latter format, move distribution is up to the digression of the battler.
• In triples, it's three moves per turn. Even as battlers are knocked out, the three moves per turn limit remains.
• Legendary/Mythical Pokemon, Ultra Beasts, Paradox Pokemon, Shadow/Illumina/Toxic Chained Pokemon, Mega Evolution, Z-Moves, Terastralization, and Dynamax are all permitted. Make sure to make note of their presence in your sign-up. Note that the Gym Leader will match the use of such factors to the best of their ability.
• No killing, maiming, or otherwise permanently harming, and no targeting trainers or audience members. This rule is strictly enforced.
• Please try not to cause too much damage during your battle. Some rooms are built for battle, but other people have to use them later.

NON-TRADITIONAL CHALLENGE:[break] GET TO THE TOP!

Those who opt to take on Rustboro's non-traditional challenge are tasked with navigating the apartment complex, floor by floor. The challenge will be represented in prompts, each prompt representing a grouping of floors. Resistance, hazards, and objectives for the challenger to contend with are presented as prompts to be fulfilled in the post detailing their run through the area.[break][break]

Challengers may bring along three Pokemon. Please bring Pokemon of a reasonable size into the challenge, ones that can comfortably navigate tight corridors. Prompts will be made to accommodate your selection.[break][break]

Challengers may complete a max of three prompts per post. Please note that the key hunt objective should be split between posts. After all prompts are fulfilled, roll. The result of the roll will be factored into the next series of prompts, whether the result is a hinderance, or an aid to the player.[break][break]

After the final round is successfully completed, the challenger will arrive at the top floor, where the Gym Leader will greet the challenger from the security room. After a critique of their performance in the challenge, the challenger will be rewarded with the Demon Badge.[break][break]

APPLICATIONS

TO APPLY FOR THE GYM CHALLENGE, please fill out the form below appropriate to what type of challenge you wish to take. Once you're added to the queue, you will have 2 weeks to start the thread; afterwards, challengers are expected to post within 10 days of the gym leader, or they may be disqualified. A 7-day extension may be granted once upon request.[break][break]

The Gym Leader, meanwhile, is expected to post within 14 days of the challenger; any longer, and the challenger may be rewarded the badge.[break][break]

There is no wait list, so spots are first-come, first-serve. Spots in the queue may be added/removed depending on how well Tagger can handle playing a Gym Leader (and how life reacts to that).
